OXNARD, Calif. — For the first time in four tries over the span of only nine days, the Dallas Cowboys will take the field against a team that isn't named the Los Angeles Rams. They enjoyed two scrimmages and the preseason opener against Sean McVay's club but, this coming weekend, they'll head to Las Vegas to meet the Raiders for their next preseason test — a particularly big one for quarterback Trey Lance.

Lance was unable to find the end zone against the Rams despite being awarded four extra possessions by the defense, and took full accountability for it while looking to improve in a big way in his second preseason outing; and his practices this week indicate he's got a chance at doing exactly that.

WHEN AND WHERE:

Date: Saturday, Aug 17
Time: 9 pm CT
Location: Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas, NV)

Of course, he's not the only one locked in a position battle.

Deuce Vaughn and Royce Freeman return from injury to find themselves climbing uphill and needing a strong showing in Las Vegas, and the tight end battle behind Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker is hotter than fry grease at McDonald's. And with Chuma Edoga and Earl Bostick both down for several weeks or more, the battle at backup tackle behind Tyler Guyton and Terence Steele gets pushed front and center.

It's almost time to find out who's making strides, and Vegas awaits.
