Mailbag: Most Improved Player Besides Gallup?

Lael-Collins-I-Knew-I-Wanted-To-Be-Here-hero

Could we consider La'el Collins as one of the most improved Cowboys since last year? I think Michael Gallup would probably win this trophy, but I've been really impressed so far with Collins' consistency in run and pass sets. - MAX DAVISON / NEW ORLEANS, LA

Bryan: Collins has been good. My vote would be Xavier Woods. It's a shame he's injured right now, but overall he's been outstanding. He's really become a complete player.

Rob: I'd go with Gallup, but besides him, yes, Collins seems to be getting more and more comfortable at right tackle. Chidobe Awuzie is another rapidly improving player. Receivers – teammates in practice and opponents in games – just haven't found much space against him. Head coach Jason Garrett said Awuzie is an excellent practice player and carries it over to game day.

It's unfortunate that Gallup will be out for 2-4 weeks. Should Tavon Austin be unavailable Sunday do you see the Cowboys picking up or calling up another WR? Not sure if Noah Brown is ready. Maybe Ventell Bryant from the practice squad? - RYAN L / SANTA CLARA, CA

Bryan: Going to play with four against the Dolphins. Would expect that you will see more 12 personnel in this game to help. Dolphins have had major problems dealing with tight ends.

Rob: Garrett said "all hands are on deck" in this regard, though I doubt they'd prefer to make yet another roster move for receiver depth on game day. They had to do it last week with Cedrick Wilson signed to fill in for Austin. Garrett says Austin is improving, so let's see how it plays out. But if not, maybe they just have to work around the numbers issue against Miami. Noah Brown has to be on PUP for a minimum of six weeks, by the way.
