Parsons, Bland "in the same boat" on injury front

FRISCO, Texas – There may be a light amongst the darkness that has been the Cowboys on the injury front in 2024, with Mike McCarthy updating the injury statuses of Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland in his Monday press conferences.

Parsons, who has not played since the Cowboys beat the Giants back in week four, has been seen several times in the weeks since working on the cords at practice with athletic trainer Britt Brown. He still hasn't practiced since, but McCarthy is hopeful that changes this week.

"He's feeling better, he's going to get some practice time Wednesday and it'll be a big day to point us in that direction," McCarthy said. "It looks like he's going to be able to potentially get on the practice field."

The Cowboys pass rush, which has a 37% quarterback pressure rate in his absence (7th in the NFL), can only get better with the All-Pro defensive end back. Whenever Parsons can return for Dallas, it's to be determined how much he'll be able to contribute off the bat.

"Not yet." Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer said when asked if he knows how much Micah will be able to do this week if he's able to play.

With DaRon Bland, this could be the week he finally makes his 2024 debut after suffering a setback in his recovery a few weeks ago. Things will have to go well starting on Tuesday, but McCarthy is also optimistic about the opportunity for Bland to return to practice after a full week of DNP's leading up to the game against Atlanta.

"He'll probably start with the rehab group I'm projecting, tomorrow's workout will be a part of that evaluation," McCarthy said. "I'm hopeful he can move from the rehab group to maybe some limited work on Wednesday."

With an Eagles offense that is sixth in the NFL in total offense, the Cowboys would obviously relish the opportunity to have two of their best playmakers on defense back. Philadelphia has found something on offense with Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, AJ Brown and an elite offensive line, winning their last four games and averaging 28.25 points per game through those matchups. Zimmer and the Cowboys defense recognizes the challenge that awaits on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Stadium.

"They're very explosive, good running game, offensive line looks big and physical, obviously the receivers are good…" Zimmer said. "[Jalen] Hurts is playing really well, he's throwing the ball really well."
