LAS VEGAS — Despite it being an unofficial stat given that it took place in a preseason game, fans at Allegiant Stadium witnessed a slice of history on Saturday night when Cowboys placekicker Brandon Aubrey booted through a 66-yard field goal to end the first half — a mark that matches the NFL record set by Justin Tucker in 2021.

For Aubrey, it was the culmination of a life-changing week that saw him and his wife Jenn welcome in a newborn son, Colton, on Monday morning. Just five days later, he was back on the field, this time as a father, and still the reliable scorer from range.

"Obviously baby Colton coming in and changing our lives," Aubrey said. "Being able to perform away from him means a lot for me."

Just minutes after the conclusion of last week's game against the Rams, Aubrey was boarding a flight back to see his wife in time to welcome in the newest member of his family.

"The game ended at like 4:39, and then I was in the terminal at 5:15," he said. "I got out of there."

"I got home at like 12:30 and we left for the hospital at 4:30. No sleep and then obviously no sleep the next couple days."

With 28 seconds left in the first half, Trey Lance and the Cowboys offense took over at their own 14-yard line with just one timeout. Four plays later, generated by 38 total yards from Lance, and Dallas had one final shot at their own 48 with three seconds left.

Instead of testing Lance's arm strength on a Hail Mary attempt, head coach Mike McCarthy sent out Aubrey for a career long try.

"You can feel it off your foot," Aubrey said about the kick. "It feels like nothing is there, it has no resistance. It pops off your foot. It stays on your foot for like a half a second and then it just flies."

The snap and hold were perfect. The kick, historic.

"Yeah, I was pretty sure [I made it]," he said. "I had to watch it for a couple of seconds to make sure it didn't hook with the power fade. Hit it nice and pure, hit it straight. After about a second, I knew it was in."
