Oct. 30
3:21 p.m. - On the day the Cowboys activated DaRon Bland from injured reserve, with hopes he could possibly play this week in Atlanta, the team's other starting cornerback was absent from practice as well.
Trevon Diggs is dealing with a nagging calf injury and was held out of practice, the team announced in Wednesday's injury report.
Diggs sounded confident he would be able to play through the injury again this week when facing the Falcons.
------------
3:19 p.m. - The veteran guard has been battling injuries all season and the latest is a shoulder injury that caused him to miss Wednesday's practice.
Martin has played every game this season, but did miss some time in the Steelers game due to leg camps. He was on the injury report before the Lions game with a back injury but continued to play.
------------
3:01 p.m. - Kicker Brandon Aubrey continues to miss practice due to his jury-duty obligations.
Aubrey was out on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday last week but still traveled to San Francisco with the team. Aubrey is expected to play this week against the Falcons as well.
This year, he's been one of the most consistent kickers in the NFL, making 18 of 20 field goals, including 8-of-9 from 50+ yards. Aubrey's NFL record streak of eight straight games - dating back to last season - of at least one 50-yard field goal ended last week against the 49ers.
------------
12:08 p.m. - The Dallas Cowboys placed Amani Oruwariye on injured reserve after sustaining an injury against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
Oruwariye took a knee to the back late in the third quarter of Sunday night's game, was announced as questionable to return but did not end up returning for the Cowboys.
Oruwariye's addition to the active roster was the corresponding move for the Cowboys activating Pro Bowl corner DaRon Bland, who was at the end of his 21-day practice window after it opened on Oct. 9.
------------
Oct. 29
12:39 p.m. - For a second consecutive season, the NFL will be deprived of the "Diggs Bowl" — a highly-anticipated matchup between Stefon Diggs and Trevon Diggs, the two brothers currently operating near the top of their respective positions at wide receiver and cornerback.
The elder Diggs has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, per multiple reports, suffered in the Houston Texans' matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, effectively ending his season.
He was slated to square off against the younger Diggs when the Texans visit the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Week 11 in primetime.
In 2023, it was a torn ACL suffered by Trevon Diggs that kept the matchup from happening when the Cowboys took in the Buffalo Bills in mid-December. The same injury now claims Stefon Diggs only one year later.
------------
Oct. 27
11:06 p.m. - If there's one thing that looked vastly different coming out of the bye, it was consistent effort and execution to get CeeDee Lamb the ball.
From start to finish, Lamb was the Cowboys' most explosive weapon, and nearly brought the team back to a fourth-quarter comeback.
Lamb finished with season-highs in targets (17), catches (13) and receiving yards (146) to go along with two touchdowns, doubling his previous total this season.
Lamb had yet to make a big impact in the second half of any game this year, but changed that narrative Sunday, nearly bringing the offense back by himself.
His two fourth-quarter touchdowns got the Cowboys to within 30-24 but the offense couldn't move the ball on its final chance to win the game.
------------
10:39 p.m. - Making his much-anticipated Cowboys debut, Dalvin Cook wasn't much of a factor for the running game.
He had six carries for just 12 yards and caught one pass for 10 yards, the longest play from scrimmage.
Cook didn't start the game as the Cowboys turned to Ezekiel Elliott especially after Rico Dowdle was sidelined unexpectedly due to an illness.
The Cowboys, ranked last in the NFL in rushing, finished with just 56 yards on the ground.
------------
10:21 p.m. - It's been a wild week for the Cowboys kicker, who missed all of practice because of jury duty.
He was allowed to travel with the team and made all of his kicks – a 29-yard field goal and three extra points.
But he did have a costly penalty in the third quarter when his kickoff didn't hit in the 20-yard landing zone, giving the 49ers the ball on the 40 to start the third quarter.
Aubrey also saw an end to his NFL record eight straight games of making a field goal of 50+ yards.
------------
5:15 p.m. - The second vehicle in the Jones Family caravan was struck by a rising barricade outside of Levi's Stadium Sunday evening before the Cowboys-49ers game.
Charlotte Jones, Jerry Jones Jr. and Shy Anderson Jr. were in the vehicle.
Charlotte and Jerry Jr. were both evaluated by team medical staff at the stadium and all passengers were then able to move on to the visiting owners suite for the game.
------------
Oct. 27
3:53 p.m. - Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle is officially ruled out against the 49ers after being diagnosed with an illness ahead of kickoff.
Dalvin Cook was elevated for the first time from the practice squad on Saturday, and Deuce Vaughn will also see action against San Francisco after being inactive the prior two games.
Micah Parsons was ruled out over the weekend and headlines the list of this week's inactives alongside Dowdle, and other inactives include Caelen Carson, Andrew Booth, Matt Waletzko and Trey Lance.
Lance will serve as the emergency quarterback.
------------
Oct. 26
1:22 p.m. - Out of elevations from the practice squad, Amani Oruwariye has now been officially added to the 53-man roster. The veteran cornerback takes the spot of tight end John Stephens Jr., who was placed on season-ending IR with a knee injury.
Oruwariye has been elevated the last three games, including two starts.
In his first game with the Cowboys on Sept. 26, Oruwariye finished the game at corner and made the game-clinching interceptions to beat the Giants.
The only other roster move for the Cowboys Saturday was elevating running back Dalvin Cook.
------------
Oct. 25
3:04 p.m. - The Cowboys have made the decision on two of their top defensive players for Sunday's game in San Francisco.
Both Micah Parsons and DaRon Bland missed all week of practice and have been ruled out for the 49ers game.
Parsons (high-ankle sprain) will miss his third straight game and fourth week, including the bye week. Bland has been out since the start of the season with stress fracture in his foot.
Jordan Phillips (wrist) was also ruled out despite being a full participant in practice for three straight days. Caelen Carson, Eric Kendricks, and Nick Vigil were listed as questionable. Brandon Aubrey (jury duty) did not have a game status designation, meaning he's good to go.
------------
12:45 p.m. - As the clock inches nearer toward the contest against the San Francisco 49ers, the Dallas Cowboys continue to monitor the health of key players such as Micah Parsons, DaRon Bland and Eric Kendricks.
Parsons has yet to practice this week and remains with the rehab group, but both Bland and Kendricks have taken steps toward potentially returning to the field — per head coach Mike McCarthy.
"Bland did more [on Friday]," said McCarthy. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow. He also did a lot more yesterday and felt good today. Tomorrow, we'll make a decision on him. ... [Kendricks] came out of practice well. He's in the same category [as Bland] and he's moving nicely — more than we thought he would."
Kendricks was sidelined against the Detroit Lions in Week 7 with injury, while Bland has been fighting to leave injured reserve since a foot fracture landed him there ahead of the regular season.
------------
Oct. 24
4:11 p.m. - For the second straight day, linebacker Eric Kendricks was limited in practice with a shoulder injury. He missed the last game vs. Detroit because of a shoulder and calf injury.
Kendricks said this week he will do whatever it takes to play Sunday night against the 49ers, a team he nearly signed with back in March before changing his mind to play with the Cowboys.
Kendricks is one 10 players listed on the Cowboys' injury report.
------------
11:41 a.m. - Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey missed practice on Wednesday for jury duty, but is expected to play on Sunday night against the 49ers.
"Brandon's serving his civic duty, but we have a plan… he'll be ready to go for Sunday." Mike McCarthy said.
Aubrey will miss team practice for the rest of the week, but is going to the facility after his jury duties are fulfilled for the day to get in his normal work to prepare for a game. After the game, McCarthy said the team plane will return in time for Aubrey to return to his jury duty services should they still be needed.
------------
Oct. 23
3:43 p.m. - The Cowboys' most consistent player was out Wednesday because of jury duty obligations.
Brandon Aubrey did not practice and his status for Thursday and Friday is unclear.
Aubrey has had a phenomenal season so far for the Cowboys, breaking an NFL record for consecutive games with a 50-yard field goal. He's made one in six games this year, and has the record for eight straight games dating back to last season.
------------
3:43 p.m. - Just when it seemed like DaRon Bland was going to return to action against the Lions two weeks ago, now it appears he might be hard-pressed to play even this week against the 49ers.
Bland did not practice on Wednesday, still dealing with the stress fracture in his foot.
Check out the full injury report for the Cowboys and 49ers.
------------
1 p.m. - There's some help on the way for the Dallas Cowboys' run defense as they prepare to visit the San Francisco 49ers in Week 8.
Jordan Phillips, moved to injured reserve in mid-September, has been designated to return from IR by the club and rejoined practice on Wednesday.
The practice window will extend a maximum of 21 days and, at that point, the Cowboys will need to make a decision on if he'll be moved to the active roster or if he'll revert to season-ending injured reserve.
Acquired in training camp via trade with the New York Giants, Phillips is looking to make an impact in Dallas as soon as he's medically cleared to give it another go.
------------
Oct. 23
11:45 a.m. - Tyler Guyton is on schedule to take the field against the San Francisco 49ers when the Dallas Cowboys make the trip to Levi's Stadium in Week 8.
The rookie first-round pick practiced fully in the days leading into the Week 6 matchup against the Detroit Lions, but was held out as a precaution by the club after it was deemed he wasn't yet 100 percent in his recovery from a knee injury.
With the bye week providing added time for rest and rehab, head coach Mike McCarthy is giving Guyton the green light for Sunday Night Football.
"It was a setback, but he's ready to go," said McCarthy. "He'll be a full participant in practice and I look for him to jump back in there and really hit it running."
------------
Oct. 22
9:22 a.m. - Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones said on his weekly 105.3 The Fan radio show that the status of Micah Parsons (ankle) and DaRon Bland (foot) may not be determined until game time in San Francisco.
"We're not going to be able to tell their availability until right at game time in my view." Jones said.
Jones prefaced that statement with mentioning that after conversations with the training staff earlier this morning, the Cowboys want to see how Parsons and Bland handle practice and drills later this week.
"You can't tell today… we've got to see how they're playing, how they're running"
Parsons has missed the last two games, the first two of his NFL career, while Bland has yet to play in the 2024 season after being close last week against Detroit.
------------
Oct. 21
1:32 p.m. – While it seemed DaRon Bland was ready to return to action last week, the cornerback suffered a minor setback in his rehab of a stress fracture in his foot.
While he was held out of the game against the Lions, Bland could be ready for his 2024 season debut this Sunday against the 49ers.
However, head coach Mike McCarthy was non-committal on Bland's return, as well as linebacker Eric Kendricks (shoulder/calf), stating it was to early in the week to see if they'll be ready to play.
Bland has been on IR since the start of the season but the Cowboys opened his 21-day window on Oct. 9, suggesting Bland will make a return sooner than later.
On the flip side, the 49ers could be without star receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who suffered a knee injury on Sunday against the Chiefs.
------------
9:57 a.m. - Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy was pleased to see Micah Parsons in the facility during the bye week as he works to return from a high-ankle sprain suffered back in week four.
"He's doing good, he was in here every day… Micah's making progress" McCarthy said.
Parsons went through rehab treatment alongside a contingent of his teammates during the off week. Monday will be a lighter day in terms of drill work and getting back onto the field, giving McCarthy and the staff a look at where Parsons and some of the other injured Cowboys are at in their recovery.
------------
Oct. 17
2:10 p.m. - One thing about having coaches on the staff who played in the NFL, they can certainly relate to the players they're coaching. And then, if by chance, they've actually played for this team, and not too long ago, they can relate to more than that.
Greg Ellis, the Cowboys' assistant defensive line coach who played for the Cowboys from 1998-2008, knows exactly what Micah Parsons is going through as he tries to recover from a high-ankle sprain. He even knows the athletic trainers helping him get there.
"I feel sorry for him," Ellis said this week of Parsons, who has missed the last two games. "Because I've been there as a player myself. When you get hurt and you want to go play and you just wish you could rewind the clock to avoid that injury, but it happens. I can't think of a guy who made it through this thing without getting a twisted ankle or something."
Ellis said Parsons has stayed engaged to the team and is offering his assistance as much as possible.
"My hat's off to him. He's on the sideline trying to help guys get better. He comes out to practice. I see him around more and more now and I encourage him, 'Hey, the same guys that's doing your rehab did my rehab.' It was a long time ago. But those guys know what they're doing and so make sure you listen to them and they'll get you back out there quick as possible."
------------
Oct. 16
1 p.m. - While it's been confirmed by the Cowboys' front office that no blockbuster transactions are expected during the bye week, they continue to sift through available players to see who might be of assistance going into Week 8 and beyond, and they're hoping Jalen Dalton brings something to their table.
Dalton, 27, is a former undrafted free agent of the Chicago Bears in 2019 who spent time with several other NFL clubs before suiting up for the Seattle Sea Dragons and the San Antonio Brahmas, now heading north to Dallas to try his hand again in the NFL.
Having spent his collegiate career at North Carolina, Dalton is a defensive end joining a unit in desperate need of assistance, thanks in large part to a rash of injuries.
He will have two weeks to ramp up with the hopes of potentially being elevated as early as Oct. 27 against the San Francisco 49ers.
------------
Oct. 15
2:12 p.m. - The assistant coaches were made available on Tuesday and assistant head coach Al Harris, who also coaches the defensive backs, was asked about the art of tackling for a cornerback, specifically Trevon Diggs.
Harris, who also played the position for 14 seasons, didn't single out Diggs or any corner for their issues in run support.
"I think we go about tackling as a team, not just one individual," Harris said. "I think right now as a team, we can tackle better ... run-fits, fundamentals, footwork, all of that goes into it. So you don't pick out one person as a team. I think we got to tackle better, but he definitely has to tackle better."
The Cowboys rank 26th in the NFL this year, averaging 143.2 yards per game. In the three losses this year - all at home - the Cowboys are allowing 216 yards on the ground.
"If you're getting hurt by the run, it takes 11 people," Harris said. "It takes 11 people in the run and that's it. It's 11-man football. Whatever it is. It's 11-man football."
------------
Oct. 14
12:15 p.m. - There was progress made by DaRon Bland in his bid to return from injured reserve heading into the matchup against the Detroit Lions, but he was ultimately held to IR by the Dallas Cowboys.
Having been a full participant in team practice on both Wednesday and Thursday of last week, the All-Pro cornerback did not participate in practice on Friday and the reason has been revealed — Bland now getting added time to potentially return against the San Francisco 49ers.
Speaking to 105.3 the Fan, executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones explained the decision regarding Bland's status this past weekend.
"He had a little setback late in the week, in terms of soreness, and we just didn't want to push that issue," Jones said. "We felt like giving him another full two weeks to build his confidence, and to get out there and not have a setback, was worth not having him out there."
------------
Oct. 13
7:58 p.m. - While the Cowboys certainly had more kickoff returns than they wanted as the Lions racked up 47 points, at least return specialist KaVontae Turpin was productive in his returns.
Turpin had 194 kickoff returns this sixth-most in franchise history and the most by any player since 2008 (Felix Jones, 247).
In just four returns, Turpin had an average return of 48.5 yards, a franchise record in a game with a minimum of three returns.
Turpin had a 79-yard return in the second quarter, the longest of his career. He also added four catches for 24 yards on offense.
------------
7:38 p.m. - Getting his most extensive playing time of the season, Damone Clark had his game in 2024, and perhaps his career.
He led the team with nine tackles, including one for loss and a pass deflection. Yet to record a sack in his career, Clark finished with a half-sack as he teamed up with Chauncey Golston for one in the first half.
In the first five games, Clark had just 15 tackles combined.
------------
7:12 p.m. - The only player to score points for the Cowboys, Brandon Aubrey, continues to be the biggest bright spot for this team. On Sunday, he was the only bright spot, hitting all three of his field goal attempts.
Aubrey extended his NFL record of consecutive games of a 50+ yard field goal make when he drilled a 50-yarder in the third quarter.
Aubrey is now 17 of 19 this season on field goals this season through six games.
He set the franchise record for field goals in a season with 36. Currently this year, he's on pace to make 47 field goals this year.
That's a stat that might be good for Aubrey, but obviously not for the offense.
------------
1:55 p.m. - The return of DaRon Bland will have to wait as he was not activated from injured reserve this week, and that means the Dallas Cowboys are still dealing with depth issues at cornerback — made worse by the status of Caelen Carson.
Carson, a rookie fifth-round pick who continues to deal with a shoulder injury, is ruled inactive against the Lions, marking the third consecutive week he'll be sidelined. In his place, the team elevated Amani Oruwariye and will look to Andrew Booth to provide depth in the rotation.
The linebackers' depth chart is also hit hard by the loss of Eric Kendricks this week, ruled out with a calf and shoulder issue, but Nick Vigil will take the field after a scare this week with his foot.
Remaining inactives include Micah Parsons, Deuce Vaughn, Matt Waletzko, John Stephens Jr. and Trey Lance, with Lance serving as emergency quarterback.
------------
Oct. 12
12:54 p.m. - Despite being able to practice for the first time this week and given a "real chance" to play on Sunday, cornerback DaRon Bland will not return to action Sunday against the Lions.
Instead, the Cowboys will let Bland sit another week, which means two more weeks because of the bye, and he should be able to return for his first game on Oct. 27 in San Francisco.
Bland has been on IR with a stress fracture in his foot that he sustained back in training camp. The Cowboys opened his 21-day window to return but did not move from IR, which would've prompted another roster move.
The Cowboys have elevated veteran Amani Oruwariye for the third and final time. He is expected to start his second straight game at corner opposite Trevon Diggs.
------------
12:36 p.m. - Linebacker Darius Harris has been elevated to the roster for Sunday's game.
Harris has been on the practice squad since the start of regular season. He is expected to give the team depth at linebacker where Eric Kendricks is now out this week with a calf and shoulder injury.
------------
Oct. 11
3:02 p.m. - While this could be the season debut for DaRon Bland, the cornerback did not practice on Friday, after being a full participant the previous two days.
That could be part of the plan in bringing back Bland, who has missed the first five games of the season due to a stress fracture in his foot.
The Cowboys have said this week there is a chance Bland plays against the Lions, even in a limited role.
The Cowboys should also get rookie Caelen Carson back from a shoulder injury that has forced him to miss the last two games. Veteran Amani Oruwariye, who started last week, has another practice elevation the Cowboys could use if needed.
------------
Oct. 10
3:21 p.m. - The Cowboys are getting close to getting one of their starting cornerbacks back from injury this week in DaRon Bland. But now, there could be a question about the other starter as Trevon Diggs missed Thursday's practice due to an illness.
Diggs is already on the injury report with an ankle injury, but was a full participant on Wednesday.
After missing most of the 2023 season with a torn ACL injury, Diggs has returned this year to play in all five games. He's been a steady force on one side, while the other side has seen Caelen Carson, Andrew Booth and Amani Oruwariye all get a turn to start.
------------
3:09 p.m. - For the second straight day, Zack Martin missed practice, but this time, it's injury-related.
Martin was on the Cowboys' injury report with a back injury. On Wednesday, he missed for rest, something the team has done here with Martin in recent weeks.
So the back injury is something to monitor as they get closer to Sunday's game. The Cowboys already dealt with some O-line injuries last week when left tackle Tyler Guyton left the game with a knee injury, forcing guard Tyler Smith to move to tackle and get replaced by T.J. Bass.
If Guyton is able to return this week, Bass might be an option at right guard if needed.
In his 11th pro season, Martin has only missed 10 games due to injury, including six in the 2020 season alone.
------------
11:36 a.m. - DaRon Bland returned to practice for the first time this regular season on Wednesday and head coach Mike McCarthy said the Pro Bowl cornerback had no setbacks from his foot injury.
However, Bland will remain on a pitch count in practice, having limited reps this week and if he plays Sunday against the Lions, will likely be limited as well.
Earlier this week, Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones said Bland has a "real chance" to play but isn't expecting him to play every snap.
The Cowboys could get rookie Caelen Carson back from a shoulder injury this week and veteran Amani Oruwariye has played well the last two games, but is currently on the practice squad.
------------
Oct. 9
3:44 p.m. - The Cowboys had a few players on the recent injury report, but linebacker Eric Kendricks has not one, but two injuries worth monitoring.
Kendricks did not practice Wednesday as he deals with a shoulder and calf injury.
The veteran leads the team with 52 tackles and has a healthy edge over DeMarvion Overshown, who ranks second on the team with 38. Kendricks is also the only players on the team with both a sack and interception this year.
The Cowboys will need their best run-stoppers this week against the Lions, who have a pair of running backs that rank in the Top 20 in rushing in Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.
------------
3:04 p.m. - The Cowboys are likely going to be without their best defensive player for the second straight game.
Micah Parsons did not practice on Wednesday as he continues to rehab a high-ankle sprain. However, the fourth-year pass-rusher was at least on the strength cords with the athletic training staff, which is usually a sign that a return is sooner than later.
But getting him back this week against the Lions, especially with a bye week to follow, seems unlikely for the Cowboys.
Parsons suffered the injury late in the Week 4 game against the Giants, forcing him to miss last Sunday's game in Pittsburgh. It was the first game Parsons has missed in his career due to injury.
------------
1:02 p.m. - The Cowboys have officially signed veteran defensive end Carl Lawson to the 53-man roster.
Lawson has been on the practice squad this season and has now hit the maximum of game-day elevations of three.
The team placed him on the roster, replacing the spot of rookie Marshawn Kneeland, who has been moved to IR with a knee injury.
Lawson recorded a half-sack last week and has six pressures so far this season.
------------
11:32 a.m. - The rookie defensive end is latest injury to the position, suffering a knee injury that has him on injured reserve.
Kneeland suffered the injury on the first defensive drive of the game Sunday night in Pittsburgh.
He joins both Sam Williams and DeMarcus Lawrence on IR and Micah Parsons has missed one game and probably another this week with an ankle injury.
Kneeland has 11 tackles and six pressures this season.
------------
Oct. 8
5:21 p.m. - The Cowboys are expected to add some depth on the practice squad at wide receiver and defensive end.
When the team returns to practice on Wednesday, expect them to have wide receiver Seth Williams and defensive end Luiji Vilain.
Both players worked out for the team on Tuesday that also included receivers Denzel Mims, Chad Cota and Dante Pettis, along with QB Max Duggan and DE Shaka Toney, who was with the Cowboys back in training camp.
Vilain has played five games in the last two years, spending time with the Vikings and Panthers.
Williams was a sixth-round pick of the Broncos in 2021, but hasn't played since that season.
------------
4:31 p.m. - After missing the first five games of the season with a stress fracture in his foot, cornerback **DaRon Bland has a shot to make his 2024 season debut on Sunday against the Lions.**
Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones said Bland could at least have a limited role when the team takes on Detroit at AT&T Stadium Sunday at AT&T Stadium.
"I think DaRon Bland. Has a real chance," Jones said on Tuesday. "I don't know if he'll play the whole game. I think he's ready to start mixing it up."
Bland has missed the first five games of the season. Last year, he was an All-Pro and Pro Bowler after leading the NFL with nine interceptions, including five returned for touchdowns.
------------
9:13 a.m. - The Cowboys are looking at free-agent wide receiver Denzel Mims for a Tuesday workout at The Star.
Mims, a second-round pick of the Jets in 2020, is from the DFW area and played at Baylor.
He had just 42 catches for 676 yards and no touchdowns in three seasons with the Jets. Mims had short stints with the Steelers, Lions and Jaguars but hasn't caught a pass since the 2022 season.
Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones said on 105. 'The Fan' that this workout might not mean the team is looking to add Mims or any player, but simply doing due diligence for the scouting department.
"We continue to look for depth. Don't pay attention to the players here working out," Jones said. "We're in a good spot. We're here in Dallas. We can work out a lot of players. This is a central point in the country. We're trying to keep up with where players are with their health and condition. And just to look at them. We do a lot of that without any specific position in mind."
Other players in the workout include wide receiver Seth Williams, defensive end Luiji Vilain and former TCU quarterback Max Duggan.
------------
Oct. 7
1:12 p.m. - Rookie left tackle Tyler Guyton already has his hands full in trying to learn on the run in his first NFL season. Now, he'll be dealing with a knee injury as well.
But according to Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones, the rookie left tackle avoided any serious long-term injury he sustained Sunday night.
"Guyton was trying to play last night," Jones said Monday on 105.3 'The Fan' in Dallas. "I think he's going to be day to day."
Guyton was replaced by left guard Tyler Smith, who slid over to tackle. T.J. Bass filled in at left guard.
In other injury news, Jones commented on Marshawn Kneeland's knee injury.
"We've got our fingers crossed that we get some news that it's not (out) for the season. We'll see."
------------
Oct. 6
The Cowboys continue to have huge setbacks at the defensive end position. Just one drive into Sunday's game in Pittsburgh, rookie Marshawn Kneeland suffered a knee injury that ended his night way too early.
Kneeland had to be carted off the field and was ruled out for the rest of the game. He left the locker room on crutches.
The Cowboys will re-evaluate the injury on Monday morning when the team returns to Dallas.
Kneeland started the game as the Cowboys were without Micah Parsons (ankle) and DeMarcus Lawrence, who is now on IR with a foot injury. Sam Williams suffered a season-ending ACL injury back in training camp.
The Cowboys were down to Chauncey Golston, Tyrus Wheat and Carl Lawson at the end position. All three of them recorded at least a half-sack.
------------
There's an odd connection with Mike McCarthy and the city of Pittsburgh when it comes to his coaching career.
The native of Pittsburgh, returned to his hometown this weekend but had yet to ever defeat the Steelers in the regular season. That changed Sunday night with the dramatic 20-17 win over Pittsburgh.
Ironically enough, McCarthy's only win over his childhood team growing up, occurred in the Super Bowl as the coach of the Packers when Green Bay defeated the Steelers in Super Bowl LV. The win, of course, occurred in what his now AT&T Stadium.
McCarthy's win gives him 170 regular-season victories, tied with Pete Carroll, Tom Coughlin and Mike Shanahan for 15th all-time in NFL history.
------------
Although the Cowboys have tried to keep him at guard, Tyler Smith was forced into moving out to left tackle in the first half on Sunday.
The Cowboys lost rookie Tyler Guyton for the rest of the game with a knee injury. The team decided to move Smith to left tackle and replace his spot with T.J. Bass.
"Whatever I've got to do," Smith said after the game. "I'm comfortable being out there. But sometimes you just have to do what it takes."
Smith played left tackle during his rookie year in 2022 but was moved back to guard last season.
------------
While he took a backseat to Rico Dowdle, who led the team with 87 yards rushing, Ezekiel Elliott did surpass a milestone on Sunday night.
Elliott rushed for 17 yards, putting him over 9,000 career rushing yards.
Zeke rushed for 642 yards last season with the Patriots but has over 8,400 rushing yards with the Cowboys, third-most in franchise history behind Emmitt Smith and Tony Dorsett.
------------
10:21 p.m. - With a 55-yard field goal on the first drive of the game, Brandon Aubrey set an NFL record for consecutive games with a field goal of 50 yards or more.
Aubrey's streak extends to seven games, dating back to the final two games of the 2023 regular season.
Aubrey entered the game 6 of 7 on 50+ kicks, which include a 65 and 60-yard field goal.
------------
6:50 p.m. - Ryan Flournoy will officially make his NFL debut for the Cowboys against the Steelers on Sunday Night Football, being made active in the wake of Brandin Cooks being lost to injured reserve with an injury.
The rookie sixth-round pick exits the inactives list for the first time this season, but several others did not, including Deuce Vaughn, who is ruled inactive for he first time. Vaughn's absence will lend to more opportunities for Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle and Hunter Luepke.
The Cowboys will be without rookie cornerback Caelen Carson again this week as he continues to recover from a shoulder injury, elevating Amani Oruiwarye from the practice squad for the second week in a row to take his place.
Other inactives include Micah Parsons (ankle injury), KJ Henry (newly-acquired this week), Matt Waletzko, John Stephens Jr. and Trey Lance, with Lance serving as emergency quarterback.

12:27 p.m. - These two moves were easy to predict, especially looking at the injury report.
The Cowboys elevated defensive end Carl Lawson and cornerback Amani Oruwariye to the game-day roster for Sunday.
This will be Lawson's third and final elevation and the second time for Oruwariye, who ended up replacing Andrew Booth in the second half against the Giants and made the game-clinching interception.
The Cowboys listed both Trevon Diggs (ankle) and Caelen Carson (shoulder) as questionable to play.
Lawson is expected to provide pass-rush help with both Micah Parsons (ankle) out and DeMarcus Lawrence (foot) now on IR.
------------
12:17 p.m - Needing some depth at linebacker, the Cowboys officially signed linebacker Nick Vigil up from their own practice squad.
Vigil played in the first three games of the season, getting elevated from the squad. But after using up all three of his NFL-allowed elevations, Vigil had to be moved to the roster in order to play anymore games this season.
Vigil takes the roster spot of Brandin Cooks, who was moved to IR-Designated to Return.

3:10 p.m. - A new quad injury to linebacker Marist Liufau has him on the latest injury report for the Cowboys.
The rookie was limited in Friday's practice and is now 'questionable' to play Sunday night in Pittsburgh. Liufau joins both Trevon Diggs (ankle) and Caelen Carson (shoulder) with the questionable status for Sunday, although it's expected that Diggs will play.
If Carson misses another game, the Cowboys will likely turn to Andrew Booth again or Amani Oruwariye, who is on the practice squad but finished the game last week against the Giants and had a game-sealing interception.
------------
3:04 p.m. - For the first time in his career, Micah Parsons will miss a game due to injury.
Parsons has been officially ruled out for Sunday night's game in Pittsburgh with a high-ankle sprain.
Parsons missed the 2021 season finale against the Eagles due to COVID-19 protocols, but that's the only game he's missed during his young career.
Through the first four games, Parsons has just one sack, but leads the team with 21 quarterback pressures.
------------
11 a.m. — When the injury report was filed by the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday afternoon, it featured Trevon Diggs amidst the list of others dealing with an issue of some sort.
The All-Pro cornerback was limited with an ankle injury, but there isn't any concern about his availability for the looming primetime matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
"In my opinion, Trevon is gonna be great," owner and general manager Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan on Friday. "Just gave us a little scare there in practice."
That's good news, especially considering the absence of DaRon Bland (IR) and Caelen Carson, the latter trying to work his way back to the field after missing the Week 4 contest against the New York Giants with a shoulder injury.

Oct. 3
4:11 p.m. - The Cowboys have a rather lengthy injury report this week, one that probably will be trimmed down as we get closer to Sunday's game in Pittsburgh.
However, we still know there will be some big names not playing, such as Micah Parsons and Brandin Cooks, while DeMarcus Lawrence is now on injured reserve and DaRon Bland remains on IR as well.
On Thursday, the Cowboys added Trevon Diggs to the report as he was limited in practice with an ankle injury. Ezekiel Elliott was also limited due to dehydration.
Check out the entire injury report for the Cowboys and Steelers as we prep for Sunday's game in Pittsburgh.
------------
11:30 a.m. - Marshawn Kneeland will be asked to do much more over the next several weeks, even more so than when the team lost Sam Williams to a torn ACL before the start of the season.
Injuries to both Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence thrusts the rookie second-round pick onto center stage in Week 5 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
On Thursday, head coach Mike McCarthy discussed Kneeland's outlook in the absence of two headline defensive ends.
"I think the biggest thing is to own his role," said McCarthy. "His role will be different this week and, without getting into specifics, he just needs to focus on that. He's been playing in a couple different spots and special teams responsibilities. Of all the rookies who have played the first four games, he's played the most positions. ... When we get to Sunday, he'll be able to focus more and have a more limited menu."

3:33 p.m. - The Cowboys are hoping to get some help back in the secondary this week after seeing two key players miss the Giants game. One of them - rookie cornerback Caelen Carson - returned to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday. After starting the first three games of the season, Carson was held out of the last game with a shoulder injury.
Another DB who was in full participation on Wednesday was safety Markquese Bell, who also missed the Giants game with an ankle injury.
The Cowboys have enough issues on the D-line with both Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence both missing the game on Sunday. At least, the secondary could be nearing full strength. Cornerback DaRon Bland remains on IR but could be returning soon from a stress fracture in his foot.
------------
2:49 p.m. - As we all expected, Tyler Guyton has been tested often during the first four games of his young NFL career.
His last game in New York was an example how challenging things can get, as he was called for three holding calls. Currently, Guyton leads the team with seven penalties against him.
But it's not something that sits easy with the rookie, who said he's studying those moments and knows it comes down to technique.
"Just breaking the tape back down and figuring out what I need to do better. It is on me," Guyton said. "At the end of the day, if my hands were better, I wouldn't have got called for a flag. So just going back to the drawing board and figuring out what I need to do to make myself a better player."
The tests don't get easier anytime soon as Guyton will likely see plenty of T.J. Watt, who led the NFL in sacks last year with 19 and currently has 99.5 for his career.

8:59 a.m. - Despite the Cowboys ranking last in the NFL in rushing and having an extra time to prepare for this week's game in Pittsburgh, it still doesn't seem to be the week for Dalvin Cook to get his first action.
Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones said "probably not this week" when asked about Cook Tuesday morning on 105.3 "The Fan."
The Cowboys are averaging just 75.3 yards per game, but it appears they are not looking to change the personnel that includes Rico Dowdle, Ezekiel Elliott and Deuce Vaughn, along with fullback Hunter Luepke, who is getting a bigger role in the offense the last two games.

Sept. 30
12:30 p.m. – Caelen Carson is currently on track to potentially return when the Dallas Cowboys take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in primetime on Sunday.
The rookie fifth-round pick missed the victory over the New York Giants with a shoulder injury suffered in the loss against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3, putting the Cowboys down their immediate replacement for All-Pro cornerback DaRon Bland, the latter working to return from injured reserve.
It looks as if at least one of the two could be on the field this weekend.
"I think Carson has a real chance," said executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones to 105.3 The Fan on Monday. "I think Bland is a longer shot. We'll see. I think [Bland] is really starting to pick it up now, in terms of the workload that Britt [Brown] is giving him. We'll continue to monitor his situation as we move forward."

Sept. 26
11:21 p.m. – Having to leave the game in the second half, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence said "I'll be fine" when asked about his sprained foot injury.
Lawrence, who recorded the only sack of the game for the Cowboys, had to leave for the locker room after suffering the injury late in the third quarter.
"It's just a sprained foot, but I'll be fine." Lawrence said. "We will use these (10 days of rest) to get ready for another big game in Pittsburgh next week."
------------
10:44 p.m. – The Cowboys rewarded Lamb with one of the largest contracts in NFL history back in August, with the idea he would deliver consistent big plays.
Lamb had the longest pass play and running play of the night for the Cowboys, including his 55-yard touchdown in the second quarter.
Lamb also had a 10-yard run, becoming the only player on the Cowboys' roster with multiple 10+-yard carries this season.
However, after recording six catches for 94 yards at the half, Lamb only had one reception for four yards to finish the game.
------------
10:39 p.m. - In a game in which the Cowboys' stifled the Giants' running game with a 1.1 yard average, linebacker Eric Kendricks was the one making many of the stops.
In fact, Kendricks was credited with 13 tackles.
"Games like this come down to being physical and making plays in the trenches. I thought we fought back tonight and forced them into passing the ball. We made an effort to stop the run, and we did."
The Cowboys entered the game ranked last in the NFL in run defense allowing 185.7 yards per game. After allowing just 26 on the ground Thursday, that average dropped to 145.7.
------------
10:33 p.m. – Showing that he's human, Aubrey had his first missed field goal of the season, pushing a 52-yard attempt wide right in the final seconds of the game.
The kick would've given the Cowboys an 8-point lead.
"I just opened up hips up a little more on that kick," Aubrey said. "It's disappointing. I need to do a better job of just concentrating with the clock winding down."
Aubrey was referring to the fact the Cowboys were trying to milk as much time off the clock as possible, running the play clock down to about five seconds when he attempted the kick.
Still, it wasn't a bad night for Aubrey, who made two other field goals, including a 60-yarder in the second quarter.
Aubrey is now one of four kickers in NFL history to have three different field goals of 60+ yards.
------------
10:21 p.m. - Easily his most productive game of his career, fullback Hunter Luepke did a lot of the dirty work for the Cowboys on Thursday, but did so in multiple ways.
He not only had a critical 11-yard catch on the first scoring drive of the game to extend a drive, but later picked up a first down on a third-down as well. Luepke then added a third-down run for a first down on the final offensive drive to milk more clock.
And if that wasn't enough, he led the team with two special teams tackles.
