Tuesday is the normal day off for players during the football season. This is typically the day they schedule any public appearances and charity work. Here's a look at a couple of events that players took part in today.
Early this morning DeMarcus Ware and NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Danica Patrick faced off in a cook-off at AT&T Stadium with the help of local children. The event was held to raise awareness for the North Texas Food Bank and commemorate a Nationwide Insurance Foundation donation of 75,000 meals to hungry North Texans. In case you're wondering, the cook-off ended in a tie.
Another event that was held later in the day was the fifth appearance of our 2013 Dallas Cowboys Rookie Club. The Dallas Cowboys have teamed up with UnitedHealthcare (UHC) to present the 2013 season of the Dallas Cowboys Rookie Club – an annual outreach initiative designed to introduce the team's newest members to the importance of giving back to the North Texas community.
Students from an area school were bussed to a local pumpkin farm to participate in an NFL Play 60 event. The kids had no idea the players were showing up. As the kids did stretching exercises to get warmed up, the Dallas Cowboys bus pulled up in the driveway behind them. Players began filing off the bus as the kids turned around and cheers and screams erupted.
We decided to get our rookies in the holiday spirit and gave them all costumes to wear during the event. They all took it in stride and what resulted was this awesomeness…
