FRISCO, Texas – The Cowboys aren't claiming any moral victory from the way Sunday's game ended in San Francisco.
But sometimes there are some positives to take away from games, and one of those was Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb getting more and more in sync for Dallas' offense.
Lamb caught 13 of his 17 targets for 146 yards and two touchdowns, both of which came in the last eight minutes of the fourth quarter in Santa Clara to get the Cowboys into a one-possession ballgame. Ninety-two of Lamb's overall yards came in the fourth quarter alone on seven receptions.
"We found our rhythm, we caught our stride, and I was definitely getting open and getting the ball," Lamb said of he and Prescott's connection. "I feel like it goes hand in hand, and look to continue to do that."
Prescott felt the same way. Even before the two touchdown drives late in the game, Lamb made sure his quarterback knew that he was convinced of their ability to click down the field.
"[CeeDee Lamb] kind of said something to me like that during the game… like 'Yeah, we're back,'" Prescott said. "And that was before his two touchdown drives, so him playing with that confidence, communicating that gives me a lot of confidence."
Playing with confidence is the key to it all, and Lamb feels that when this offense is playing with that belief in themselves across the board, they'll be hard to stop.
"If we play confident and fast, we can score with anybody…" Lamb said. "We get to the redzone and don't put up enough points, just finishing our drives, ending our drives with seven."
Another issue the Cowboys have had with ending drives in the endzone has been Prescott's uncharacteristic turnover struggles. He's thrown at least two in three straight games and eight total on the season, but still is unwavering in his belief of himself.
"You're never going to knock my confidence, a majority of it is decision…" Prescott said. "When I've got the ball in my hands, it's not just about that play, it's about the team, the game, the momentum of it, and I just got to be better."
A good decision is to get the ball to number 88, and last week was a sign that good things happen when Prescott and Lamb are able to lead the offense down the field and finish those aforementioned drives. Now, it's up to Lamb and the rest of the wide receiver room to do their part to help Prescott out of his turnover slump.
"He knows it, he's aware, the best thing is to correct it," Lamb said. "For us, we got to get open, create lanes, create avenues for him to throw in, and with that comes great route running and details."
Dallas' next opportunity to test their connection will come on Sunday afternoon against an Atlanta defense that is the worst in the league in pressure rate and has allowed an average of 215.5 yards through the air this season.
