What did Stephen Jones mean when he said the Cowboys will be "selectively aggressive" in free agency? Isn't that what they've already been doing for many years? They try to re-sign their own and then a few others at reasonable prices to fill holes. What else is new this year? Or does selectively aggressive mean business as usual? – Stephen Smith/Coatesville, PA

Patrik: It means whatever the front office believes it to mean, to be frank with you, Stephen. I say that after the 2024 offseason when Jerry Jones dropped the viral "all in" edict that I thought meant one thing (to be aggressive in free agency) but they later, and repeatedly, explained didn't mean that at all. So this time around, when I hear "selectively aggressive", via Stephen Jones, I won't float a thought on what it might mean — particularly hearing Jerry Jones, only a few days later, say "aggressive is the wrong word".

For me, it's all about action versus inaction, because anything other than that is just words; and words don't win Super Bowls. Signing Osa Odighizuwa without the franchise tag is a monumentally good start, along with the restructures on Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, but they're gonna have to keep the momentum going through free agency, as that will tell what lessons were learned from 2024.

Tommy: I would lean more towards business as usual but with a bit more selection for outside free agents that they can find at the right prices. They've already got Osa Odighizuwa extended and want to have Jourdan Lewis back, so from there the question is who else they'd like to bring back into the fold before they look at see how much money they can spend in free agency.

I don't expect the Cowboys to get anywhere near close to signing all 22 of their UFAs, so I think they'll showcase that selective aggression in outside free agents more this season than they have in years past.
