I would have thought by now we would have seen someone ink a new contract, CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott or Micah Parsons. I'm really surprised to see that there is no visible movement on these guys. At some point do they just put negotiations aside now that training camp and the season is upon us? – Jon Scott/Tucson, AZ
Nick Harris: I think it's a case-by-case situation. Take CeeDee Lamb for example who by all measures looks prepared to holdout from training camp until he gets a new deal. I'm not so sure that the Cowboys can put that one aside. For Dak Prescott, I think if the right offer is discussed, it can be seen through, but I think that is one that gets put aside whenever the season starts. For Micah Parsons, I would personally be shocked if he got a deal done this year. I fully expect those negotiations to heat up next offseason since he still has two years remaining on his rookie deal.
Mickey Spagnola: Not at all. In fact, many of these offseason contract negotiations previously have been finalized during training camp, and not out of leverage desperation. Would make no sense to ever put a deadline on contract negotiations. Remember, CeeDee is under contract for a guaranteed $17.99 million and would be subject to per-day fines starting on Wednesday, the official reporting date for Cowboys players. Just understand, and can't seem to emphasize this enough, it takes two to tango, right, and while you say there has been no visible movement, you also haven't seen any visible indication of what CeeDee's people are asking for. The Cowboys are in no hurry to sign Micah, since they could still have three years of control on him: This year's fourth year, the fifth-year option they have already picked up for 2025 and potentially could franchise him after that in 2026 if they can't come to long-term deals. As for Dak, let me ask you this: What do you think he's asking for? I'll say it again, there seems little way the Cowboys can afford to pay three players the highest NFL salary their positions at the game time. It's complicated.
