Donovan Wilson was added to the mix at the safety position with the selection of the former Texas A&M product in the sixth round (213th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. Wilson played in 11 games as a rookie, seeing a majority of his time on special teams. In his second season, Wilson earned a starting role in Week 5 and went on to start 10 of the final 12 games, missing two to a groin injury. By season's end, he ranked fourth on the defense with 68 tackles while tying for first with two fumble recoveries, tying for second with three forced fumbles and two interceptions and tied for third with 3.5 sacks. Wilson was limited to starts in three-of-nine-contests in 2021, suffering multiple injuries through the season and posted 30 tackles with one for a loss, one hurry and one breakup. Wilson had a breakout campaign in his fourth season, leading the team with a career-best 108 tackles, 5.0 sacks, four tackles for loss, nine pressures, two forced fumbles and an interception. His 5.0 sacks were tied for the most by a Cowboys defensive back in a single season since 1982 with Bill Bates, who had 5.0 in 1984. For his efforts, Wilson signed a three-year deal with the Cowboys to keep him in the secondary for the near future.
