While the Commanders have plenty of familiar faces on the roster and coaching staff already, they've added another one to the list in Michael Gallup.
Out of football last year, Gallup has come out of retirement to sign with Washington, joining head coach Dan Quinn, who was a defensive coordinator with the Cowboys from 2021-23. The Commanders also have players such as Dorance Armstrong and Tyler Biadasz on the current roster.
Gallup surprisingly retired from the game last year just before the start of the season. He had signed with the Raiders in the offseason but decided to step away. The Raiders eventually released his rights, making him a free agent if he decided to return to the game.
A third-round pick of the Cowboys in 2018, Gallup spent six seasons in Dallas, including a big contract extension before the 2022 season.
He had 266 catches for 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns. His best season occurred in 2019 when he had 66 receptions for 1,107 and six touchdowns. When the Cowboys drafted CeeDee Lamb in 2020 and still had Amari Cooper on the team, Gallup still managed to get 59 balls for 843 yards and five touchdowns. But a knee injury at the end of the season affected his entire offseason leading up to the 2021 season. Gallup began the year on PUP and missed the first four games. Since then, he never had more than 40 catches in a season or reached the 500-yard mark.
