Updates: Deuce Vaughn breakout coming under new hire?

Feb. 7

10 a.m. - It's been a tough go thus far for Deuce Vaughn in his young NFL career, unable to find solid footing in the first two seasons with the Cowboys.

That might all change in 2025, as the coaching regime changes and a familiar face reportedly expects to reunite with Vaughn, namely Conor Riley, the offensive coordinator of the Kansas State Wildcats. Riley, of offensive line coaching fame as well, is working to take on the latter role with the Cowboys under Brian Schottenheimer.

This could mean big things for Vaughn and starting center Cooper Beebe alike, both of whom benefitted greatly from their time with Riley in Manhattan, Kansas.

As Vaughn enters a pivotal third year that is also headlined, currently, but a lot of upheaval at the running back position in Dallas, he'll try to show and prove that everything he put on film under Riley at Kansas State can translate to the NFL.

4:45 p.m. - After three seasons as the wide receivers coach for the Dallas Cowboys, Robert Prince has reportedly joined Mike McDaniel's staff with the Miami Dolphins according to multiple reports.

Cowboys' assistant coaches and coordinators' contracts expired on January 14 alongside Mike McCarthy's, and are free to sign with other teams if the opportunity arises. Prince joins former special teams coordinator John "Bones" Fassel as the two assistants from McCarthy's staff to reportedly accept positions elsewhere.

As the Cowboys continue their search for the 10th head coach in franchise history, they'll now need to replace two key spots on the coaching staff as well.

1:15 p.m. - The Cowboys liked what they heard in their initial interview with Brian Schottenheimer as they search for the successor to Mike McCarthy.

The former offensive coordinator whose contract expired on Jan. 14 alongside McCarthy and the other in-house coaches, Schottenheimer landed an interview on Tuesday afternoon that lasted roughly four hours.

On Wednesday, Schottenheimer and the Cowboys are expected to meet a second time.

This logically makes him a lead horse in the race to potentially become the tenth head coach in Cowboys' history — the first candidate to land a second interview in Dallas.

8 a.m. - With a slew of players set to hit free agency, the Cowboys have plenty of decisions to make, and one of them will be on their future with Chauncey Golston.

A third-round pick in 2021, Golston mostly served his career in Dallas as a rotational piece on the defensive interior, and sparingly on the edge; that is until injuries at defensive end locked him into the latter for the large portion of the 2024 season.

Golston went on to produce 5.5 sacks in the process, a career high by a sizable margin, in a total of 13 starts. He started in only three games prior to 2024.

As free agency in March approaches, Golston and the Cowboys will both have to decide what the fit will look like as the position gets healthy this offseason.
