Despite standing at just 5-foot-11, 183 pounds, Rakestraw displays a toughness that can’t be taught, which shows up in his hand-fighting at the line, throwing weight on the catch-point and attacking the run game with an ability to thump on ball-carriers. | Almost primarily asked to play man coverage in college, Rakestraw doesn’t bring a ton of experience nor an adept zone-coverage ability to the NFL. His torn ACL in 2021 and a groin injury in 2023 also could draw some concerns with his narrow frame. |
OVERVIEW: Originally from nearby Duncanville, Texas, Rakestraw held just one Power Five offer from Missouri following the conclusion of his senior season with the Panthers. After a high-school playoff run where he caused problems for Quinn Ewers in the quarterfinals and Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the semifinals, Rakestraw saw big-time offers fly in from Alabama, Texas, Georgia and more, but he signed with the Tigers in a dramatic recruiting conclusion. In his time in Columbia, Rakestraw separated himself as one of the top corners in the SEC.
