Last year, the Cowboys used their top selection on a defensive tackle, but unfortunately they’re still waiting on Mazi Smith to make a big impact. This upcoming season would be a good time for that, considering what Dallas lost in free agency. Both Johnathan Hankins (Seattle) and Neville Gallimore (Miami) departed for other teams, leaving quite a hole. Returning for his fourth season is Osa Odighizuwa, who had the best campaign of his career in 2023 and will likely be the anchor in the middle of the defensive line for new coordinator Mike Zimmer. Outside of Odighizuwa, though, there are a whole lot of question marks, which is why the Cowboys need Smith to make a jump in his sophomore campaign. The team also re-signed veteran Carl Davis, who was mostly on the practice squad last year, and have a couple of versatile defensive ends in Chauncey Golston and Junior Fehoko who could factor into the mix at defensive tackle.
