Good enough with his arm to fit throws into tight windows and hit his receivers in stride. Really had some success when play-action was prevalent. Stays rooted in good footwork and great decision-making. Will only be 21 years old as a rookie. | At times, his throws would play at one speed. His touch never really varied from the high velocity he normally plays with. He also plays with a lanky and long frame that could be prone to injury. However, that was never seen since he played in every college game. |
OVERVIEW: : It's hard to believe McCarthy has acquired so much experience at the collegiate level and is still just 21 years old. He finished his college career with a 27-1 record, two Big Ten titles, two trips to the College Football Playoff, a Rose Bowl MVP, and a national championship win. And achieving all this before being able to legally buy a drink. His résumé is strong, but so was the talent and coaching around him. He'll have to adjust to a more even playing field and a faster pace of competition at the position.
