A lengthy defensive back (32 ⅜” arms) with quick, fluid movement for the safety position, Simpson can be trusted in both zone and man coverage situations. He has the ability to make up ground using his length and quickness, allowing him to stick to his man responsibility. | Simpson can get himself lost behind a blocker in run support. He typically does a good job identifying when to step up, but his slender, narrow frame at 6 feet, 178 pounds doesn’t give him many advantages when trying to shed blockers in the ground game. |
OVERVIEW: After playing mostly cornerback at Auburn, Simpson made the transition to safety in 2023 and became a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist with 36 tackles and four interceptions that made him one of the SEC's more feared cover safeties toward the back-half of his senior year. His 48 games of experience at various spots in the secondary over his five seasons playing for the Tigers will provide an NFL team with a ready-product who can contribute wherever there is a hole in the defensive back group.
