Reliability is Johnson’s top trait. Never got too low, and never really exploded as a receiver either. Solid frame for the position and is a strong ball-carrier. Tough to take down on initial contact and does have the ability to break out of weak tackles. | Johnson fails to have a steady streak of blocking. Refinement in that area of his game needs improvement, especially without elite traits as a playmaker. Penn State didn’t do him any favors from a route-tree standpoint. He’s very raw as a runner. |
OVERVIEW: Johnson put together a consistent career with the Nittany Lions. Each season from his sophomore year on, he put together at least 200 yards of receiving in 10-or-more games of work. In 2023, his steady production exploded in the red zone as he totaled seven touchdowns, which was tied for third in a single season at Penn State. The NFL will view Johnson as a high-floor receiver with an emphasis in the possession game. He'll be a nice addition to any offense looking for a security blanket pass-catcher.
