Yes, there’s Micah Parsons. And yes, you just can’t get much better in terms of a foundation for your defensive end group. The question is, Do the Cowboys have an impact rusher to pair with him? DeMarcus Lawrence and Chauncey Golston departed in free agency, which left a rather significant hole to fill, but the team countered that by picking up Payton Turner and Dante Fowler Jr. The hope is that Fowler, in his return to Dallas, can reach double-digit sacks again after recording 10.5 last year with Washington. That would indeed make an impact. But if he can’t at age 31, who can? Marshawn Kneeland was solid in his pro debut last season but also had the typical ups and downs that rookies endure. Will he be able to take a step forward? Meanwhile, Sam Williams was expected to play a big role in 2024, only to suffer a torn ACL in training camp that put him out for the year. Can he return to form? Actually, can he be better than what he showed in his first two seasons? Fortunately, Parsons will be in the lineup – likely with a big contract extension in his back pocket – which again is a giant first step toward success. Still, look for the Cowboys to address the position over draft weekend. Depth behind him is always needed, but at this point is there another impact player in the mix?
