Is this a chicken or the egg argument? Would a marquee running back provide a boost to Dallas’ offensive line? Or does it fall on the offensive line to make room for whoever the running back might be? In other words, where should the Cowboys invest their early-round draft capital? Many believe the team is targeting local product and Boise State star Ashton Jeanty with its first-round pick. And that would certainly get the fan base and Jeanty himself excited. But would the Cowboys be better off fortifying other areas and waiting until Day 2 of the draft to pick up a rusher? Time and time again, running backs taken in later rounds have found success in the NFL. Either way, the Cowboys will have to do something. After his 1,000-yard effort in 2024, Rico Dowdle has moved on to greener pastures, although Dallas did land veteran running backs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in free agency. They joined Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis and fullback Hunter Luepke, who are all back for another season. But is there a true game-changer among the group? The Cowboys will hope to find one early in the 2025 NFL draft … perhaps even very early.
